Tempted fate and poked through some old photos yesterday
I should've known that there'd be one of you
I still recall those bright blue eyes, black hair & impish grin
It's a shame that none of what you said was true
We see only what we want to see; belief is just the same
In that, well I'm no different from the rest
I believed all your opinions; thought that you could do no wrong
Never put a single statement to the test
Pictures frozen in memory's book
Winds of now blow it open; and I'm forced to look
Reflections that I find there aren't a surprise
But do I see them now with Wisdom's eyes?
With 20 20 hindsight we rue all our mistakes
Saying "If what I know now I knew back then"
But do we really notice & then heed the warning signs
Or do we doom ourselves to those mistakes again?
If I had a crystal ball with all the answers clear
Wouldn't lack of effort just cheapen the prize?
I know it's sink or swim and that my outcome's up to me
Still I'm grateful for the reassurance in your eyes
Pictures frozen in memory's book
Winds of now blow it open; and I'm forced to look
Reflections that I find there aren't a surprise
But do I see them now with Wisdom's eyes?
